The Bolivian Airline Amaszonas recently obtained its license for international flights to Peru. For the moment the airline only serves Cusco’s Alejandro Velasco Astete’s Airport but other destinations are planned in the future within Peru and other South American countries.
With Amaszonas now flying to Cusco, this means that there is again a good and trustworthy connection between Cusco and La Paz. Four times a week there is a direct flight from La Paz to Cusco and back to La Paz. The flights operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
As Bolivia is getting more and more popular as an add-on destination after having visited Machu Picchu this is great news as this can save you two days of overland travel between Cusco and La Paz and also allows travellers to discover Bolivia much easier. In La Paz the same airline has daily connections to Santa Cruz, Rurrenabaque in the jungle and Cochabamba in the center of the country. The newest service that the airline offers are flights to Uyuni. Uyuni is home to the largest salt flat in the world located on altitudes well over 4000 meters and surrounded by numerous volcanoes and lagoons of the strangest colors. Uyuni has always been one of the most impressive natural sites on the continent and for sure, a once in a lifetime experience for most visitors. Therefore this new route takes passengers from Cusco by plane to Uyuni with only one short stop in La Paz making that the gates for Bolivia will be open a lot wider than they were before.
