The last week of June a new hotel from the famous luxury chain ‘Orient Express’ opened its doors for travelers to the Imperial City of Cusco.
The Palacio Nazarenas by Orient Express is located on the square with the same name, just one block from the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. On the same square one can also find another Orient Express hotel, the impressive Monasterio Hotel. The Palacio Nazarenas is although quite different from the Monasterio Hotel in it has only 55 rooms making it a much more exclusive retreat than the Monasterio Hotel. The hotel is housed in one of Cusco’s oldest colonial buildings, constructed in the typical Cusco style on top of ancient Inca foundations. There used to be an Inca Temple on this spot but after the conquest, part of the building was destroyed and a new colonial mansion was constructed on the Inca foundations. This all makes the Palacio Nazarenas to be one of the best found examples of the amazing “fusion” between Inca and Colonial architecture. The renovation of this ancient palace has taken Orient Express over 5 years and the hotel has done a great job in maintaining all these ancient architectonic details and exploit the character they give to this building and its interior.
Even though the hotel is housed in a marvel of history almost 500 years old, Orient Express proves its guests again that this does not necessarily mean that comfort levels have to be touched; on the contrary. All 55 suites are equipped with the latest technology and all comforts to make its guests feel at home as soon as they open the door to their suite. All suites are designed to meet with the highest standards of hoteling and come with 24 hour room service, pillow menu, mini-bar with espresso and tea facilities, satellite tv with surround sound system, climate control and Wi-Fi. All bathrooms are very spacious with large bathtub, floor heating and decorated with Peruvian travertine marble décor. The hotel also provides an Ipad for every room, loaded with and extensive city guide, restaurant and pillow menu, games and other interesting information. All rooms can be oxygen enriched through their internal oxygen system on request. Master and Grande Suites also come with a private butler, bar and provide priceless views of Cusco. Apart from the suites, the hotel itself is also equipped with all modern 5* amenities and more.
The hotel is home to ‘Senzo bar and restaurant’ a new sensation in Cusco under direction of internationally renowned Chef Virgilio Martinez. Senzo presents diners with exquisite tastes and innovative textures. Specialty dishes featuring indigenous herbs and decorated with edible flowers, many grown throughout the hotel. For amazing French cuisine the guests of Palacio Nazarenas are welcomed at the renowned Monasterio Hotel Restaurant a couple of meters down on the same square. For relaxation, the hotel has an in house Spa inspired by Inca and Andean culture, and specializing in aromatherapy. The Hypnôze Spa has developed treatments that enhance mood, cognitive function and health. The hotel also houses the first outdoor heated pool in Cusco located in one of the amazing patios the hotel boosts. Finally the hotel also has a large chapel. Restored and preserved, the chapel's gallery now serves as a guest lounge. This space also houses Palacio Nazarenas’ library which displays artifacts found during the restoration of the building. As you can read, this is the ultimate hotel for luxury seeking travellers to explore Cusco and Machu Picchu.
This hotel is the summit of luxury travel in Peru and provides its guests with a personalized service adequately housed in a palace where in ancient days Inca and Spanish Royalty have rest their heads.
